Our carbon-neutral facilities are located beside plains of wildfire-burned forest in Northern Alberta. We work there with Indigenous communities so they share and prosper in the economies we generate.
The collaboration produces the world’s most tightly packed biofuel pellets – to maximize their energy payload and to mitigate their carbon footprint during transfer.
At the point of burning, every black pellet we produce consistenly has 87 percent of coal’s energy but just six percent of its carbon footprint.

Steam explosion black pellets are the latest evolution in clean-tech biofuel. They’re celebrated for their manifold upgrade on white and torrefied pellets as a replacement for coal.
Their regular profile, mechanical strength and superior density allows more energy to be transported, stored and consumed per volumetric unit.
Our next-gen black pellets don’t break down when wet. They are loaded with energy-rich lignin, making them durable and waterproof. Stockpiled outdoors in all weathers, they eliminate the need for dry silo storage.
With advanced grindability, they're pulverized for co-firing easily into homogenous coal-like granules that support precise burn control and energy production.

FOREST MANAGEMENT

All of Power Wood's advanced black pellets are made from only wildfire-damaged deadwood, beetle-diseased trees and forestry residuals. We leave healthy old-growth forest standing to draw down atmospheric carbons and cool our climate.
Our steam explosion plants are located on the edge of massive ranges of scorched dead aspen trees.
We have renewable Crown rights to clear deadwood feedstock from five million forest hectares. Our agreements with Indigenous councils to harvest burnt lumber from their traditional lands provide the foundation for much broader partnerships.
Extracting deadwood for advanced black pellets prevents the release of megatons of decomposition methane, and creates sizeable forest fuel breaks to foil the spread of future wildfires.
And through our New Ground Foundation, Power Wood reforests and renatures Canada’s boreal biome.
