Power Wood Canada Corp produces energy-dense, minimal carbon footprint black biofuel pellets as a drop in replacement for coal.
We manufacture them from the deadwood of Canadian wildfires, from diseased trees and from forestry residuals - to leave healthy woodland standing and preserve our planet’s forest carbon sinks.
Our forest-fringe, carbon-neutral steam explosion processes produce biofuel's best-in-class wood pellets – so power stations, mills and factories incur no costly upgrades or downtime to use them.
Power Wood’s advanced black pellets are proven to burn with 87 percent of coal's energy, but generating stations incur six percent of coal's carbon footprint to use them.
Power Wood Canada Corp puts our planet before every activity it undertakes. Its whole team shares a desire to protect, support and improve the biosphere, so it can nurture those who come after us.
Our carbon-neutral facilities are located beside plains of wildfire-burned forest in Northern Alberta. We work there with Indigenous communities so they share and prosper in the economies we generate.
The collaboration produces the world’s most tightly packed biofuel pellets – to maximize their energy payload and to mitigate their carbon footprint during transfer.
At the point of burning, every black pellet we produce consistenly has 87 percent of coal’s energy but just six percent of its carbon footprint.
Steam explosion black pellets are the latest evolution in clean-tech biofuel. They’re celebrated for their manifold upgrade on white and torrefied pellets as a replacement for coal.
Their regular profile, mechanical strength and superior density allows more energy to be transported, stored and consumed per volumetric unit.
Our next-gen black pellets don’t break down when wet. They are loaded with energy-rich lignin, making them durable and waterproof. Stockpiled outdoors in all weathers, they eliminate the need for dry silo storage.
With advanced grindability, they're pulverized for co-firing easily into homogenous coal-like granules that support precise burn control and energy production.
SUPERIOR ENERGY RELEASE
Power Wood Canada Corp produces black biofuel pellets which release up to 27% more energy in plant furnaces than preceding white pellets.
LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT
Power Wood’s black biofuel pellets produce a 94%lower carbon footprint than coal, create minimal ash and release no local particulates.
COMPACT BULK DENSITY
Our black pellets are ultra-compact, with 33% greater bulk density than white pellets and negligible moisture content energy-efficient product.
VERSITILE CO-FIRE FUEL
Power Wood’s black pellets improve the burning efficiency of coal and reduce toxic emisions from industrial furnaces when the fuels are co-fired.
HYDROPHOBIC QUALITY
Our black pellets are durable and waterproof, facilitating their easy and economic storage outdoors without weatherproof facilities.
NO COSTLY RETROFITS
Our black biofuel pellets are a direct drop in replacement for coal so power generation plants don't incur costly upgrades or downtimes.
FLEXIBLE FUEL FORMAT
Power Wood’s pellet offtake can be pelletized, briquetted or baled to suit the specific economic needs of each utility-scale energy producer.
EASY GRINDABILITY
Our black biofuel pellets are among the industry’s easiest to grind for co-firing, needing less power to produce smaller particles in higher quantities.
CROWN RIGHTS FEEDSTOCK
We have forestry rights to harvest an existing supply of charred deadwood from five million hectares of Canadian boreal forest over 20 years.
WASTE WOOD FEEDSTOCK
Power Wood leaves all healthy trees standing to support Canada's carbon sink, while removing only wildfire deadwood and diseased trees.
FOREST MANAGEMENT
By clearing land of waste woody material we reduce decomposition methane, remove wildfire fuel risks and promote boreal reforestation.
CARBON NEUTRAL PROCESS
Our production process is fuelled onsite with native wood chippings and forestry residuals to give all of our plants a carbon neutral footprint.
All of Power Wood's advanced black pellets are made from only wildfire-damaged deadwood, beetle-diseased trees and forestry residuals. We leave healthy old-growth forest standing to draw down atmospheric carbons and cool our climate.
Our steam explosion plants are located on the edge of massive ranges of scorched dead aspen trees.
We have renewable Crown rights to clear deadwood feedstock from five million forest hectares. Our agreements with Indigenous councils to harvest burnt lumber from their traditional lands provide the foundation for much broader partnerships.
Extracting deadwood for advanced black pellets prevents the release of megatons of decomposition methane, and creates sizeable forest fuel breaks to foil the spread of future wildfires.
And through our New Ground Foundation, Power Wood reforests and renatures Canada’s boreal biome.
Power Wood Canada Corp has assembled a suite of blue chip partners with a common aim – to create first class utility-scale renewable energy infrastructure on this planet.
From Calgary government halls to cultural centres on ancestral lands to corporate jimushos in Tokyo, we collaborate with our industry’s most aligned allies for accelerating humanity’s shift to a coal-free world.
